LeechSeed:
Some bands go to great lengths to put on a show. Leechseed is one of them. Aside from putting a lot of energy into its shows, the band itself makes a great spectacle. Clad in items like straight jackets from the mythical 'Bendigo Psychiatric Ward', apparently authentic prists' robes, fish net and many other weird and wonderful things, the band is disctinctive to say the least!
Progressing quickly in its short time together, Leechseed is a four piece metal outfit that is developing its sound. Influenced by the likes of Slipknot, Mudvain, Damage, and Cradle Of Filth, Leechseed plays mostly original music, but will throw different covers into its shows. Bassist Duane elaborates: "We're definitely not nu-metal. We're heavy but we try and retain groove in our music, so it's not just noise. You don't just have to head bang to it, you can mosh and groove as well."
But it's not just the costumes or music that make LeechSeed interesting. Members Aaron (guitars), Jahred (drums), Lynden (vocals), and Duane have come from Bendigo, Ballarat, and Melbourne to form the band. The lineup was finally complete in October last year after Lynden did his audition down a phone line from Melbourne. While the chemistry was there, there was an obvious geographical hurdle to overcome. Fortunately the band has found a way over this, as Duane explains: "Aaron programs basic tracks on the computer, and we send them to Lynden who writes the vocals. Then we get together, jam them out and do a recording so we can go home and work on them."
Given the effort Leechseed puts into its live shows, it would be a shame if the band wasn't busy on the live scene. The members seem to think so. Already a regular fixture at the VRI Hall gigs in Bendigo and having played gigs at The Arthouse, the band will be hitting the EV Metal Fest in Croydon. This will see Leechseed play with Frankenbok, Bloodduster, The Wolves and Full Scale Deflection - a pretty impressive linup for a growing band to join. And if Duane's words are any indication, he's aware of this: "It's a really big landmark [for us]."
Expect nothing but the usual Leechseed effort.
Catch Leechseed at 3pm at the EV Metal Fest in Croydon on Saturday April 20th and The Chips and Gravy Festival in Bendigo on Sunday April 7th.
